And I wanted to watch the Super Bowl on my Evo

The National Football League has been working with prosecutors to shut down websites that will be live streaming the Super Bowl this Sunday. Many websites that were planning on offering live casts have been pulled offline. There is great worry of what fans with smart phones and other devices might be able to do and how many sites may be offering this. The most valuable thing for major league sports is live video and they have rights over their materials.

This is a hard thing to track down and what I see the most out of this is major league sports behind the curve when it comes to technology. In a world of 4G phones and Internet TV the NFL and other sports casts stand to make a significant amount of money capitalizing on new media outlets. Knowledge about how to make a website, getting some online advertisers and doing something like live streaming is pretty common now days. For each of these websites they might close down, another will open just as fast.

  1. I completely agree. If professional sports were able to tap into the fast paced technology market they could stand to make tons of money. The NFL does have a contract with Verizon Wireless in which Verizon customers are able to stream the Thursday night game of the week directly to their 3G capable phone. If other professional sports were able to create a platform that would allow them to successfully integrate into the mobile market which we live in it would do wonders to their popularity as well as their financial gains.
