Habitat gets Burglarized

In early June of 2010, the Habitat for Humanity office in Salem was broken into and burglarized. The thieves stole two safes, tools, and a pickup. Everything they took off with had a worth of between $30,000 and $50,000. In addition to the tools and safes, the burglars took a laptop, a half-ton roll of carpet and some donated artwork that was hanging on the walls of the office.

Dave Kamrath noticed the burglary when he came into the office on Tuesday, and realized that the intruders broke a window with a brick to make their way in. They figured that this had to have happened between Sunday night and 6 am Tuesday morning. Despite the losses Habitat for Humanity dealt with, they are maintaining a positive outlook and continuing to help people in need.

I think it is funny that of all places these burglars had to choose from, they went with the organization who helps people that are in the same situation as they probably are. Why would you steal from a company who is helping people in need, without making a profit? I have had my car broken into before and its a pretty bad feeling knowing that your privacy has been invaded. I don't know if my outlook would remain positive knowing that I am helping people within the community who are less fortunate, only to have my things stolen from someone is most likely less fortunate.

  1. This article was really sad. I think that it is pathetic that people steel, especially from an organization that helps people in need. Its wonderful that they are keeping such a positive attitude, and I hope that they can find whoever did it and are able to get some of their stuff back.
