Fluoride Deficiency

In this article, the deficiency of fluoride in American drinking water is finally given more attention. Dr. Harald Loe of the National Institutes of Health says, "antifluoridation campaigns have persuaded local government agencies and voters in many areas, especially the West, to reject fluoridation." The shortage of fluoridated water is a direct result from insufficient public financing aid.

Over half a century ago it was discovered that naturally occurring fluoride in water protected from tooth decay. Ten years after fluoridation was introduced into drinking water the rate of tooth decay among children was found to be half what it was before. "Some 75 health and science organizations have endorsed fluoridation including the American Medical Association." Antifluoridation activists say fluoride promotes cancer, sickle cell anemia, kidney and heart disease, birth defects and acquired immune deficiency syndrome.

Fluoridation definitely has been proven to improve oral health in those who take advantage of it. But what I'm wondering is, "how many side affects are there with fluoride and is it worth it?"
