Doernbecher Children's Hospital at OHSU in Portland, Oregon was ranked as one of the top 28 out of 200 Pediatrics Hospitals; this was the first year Doernbechor had applied to be ranked and they are high on the charts! For those who don't know, Doernbechor is a Children's Hospital that specializes in Cancer and many other serious illnesses. The patients that qualify through application process receive outstanding medical care for as long as the child needs with no cost.
"The children's cancer program at Oregon Health & Science University Doernbecher Children's Hospital is the only pediatric specialty program on Oregon to be ranked in the U.S. News & World Report's 2010-11 "Best Children's Hospitals."
The reason why I was interested in this article was because one of the very top Children's Hospitals nation wide is in our state which is something to be proud of and feel secure about. Since I want to be in the medical field I got accepted into a program called Med-STARS; this program took me all over the OHSU campus including a tour through Doernbecher which was amazing. Walking though the hospital and seeing the patient that have such hope in their eye's was very inspiring; being able to actually hear the stories and see the difference that was made in the children's lives was a great experience, and many people in our group cried. What they do at OHSU is truly amazing, and their program is one that I look up to. Is it bad to provide such outstanding medical care to only those who pass the application requirements? Should these services be available to every child that needs care?
Below is the link to the article I found on the OHSU website.
