
The Supercomputer known as "Watson" destroyed its two human opponents on the games show Jeopardy. Known as the "man vs. machine" showdown, the three contestants had five seconds to answer the trivia questions. On the third night of the competition, the supercomputer outwitted the two former champions, Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings, winning USD 77,147 according to PC World. Rutter and Jennings only scored 21,600 and 24,000 dollars. Watson also one the 1 million dollar championship prize which was later donated to charity.
Watson is the brain child of IBM and took four years to build. The machine can process 80 trillion operations per second and runs 2,800 processor cores while working 16 terabytes of memory. Watsons ability to answer verbal questions posed by humans makes it one of the biggest computing advancments of this century.
Watson is a siginificant step, allowing people to interact with a computer as they would a human being.
