In this article several health care professionals decided to volunteer their time to help others who suffered from burn accidents in the Dominican Republic. Professionals that will provide service to individuals in need of help involve nursing, psychosocial care, and rehabilitation. These health care workers are all a part of a non-profit organization called Physicians for Peace, people of different health care career who travel and take time into using their knowledge to improve an individual's well-being. The organization's purpose is to also educate the health professional workers in developing countries to enhance their knowledge and serve people of the country better.
The trip to the Dominican Republic focuses on providing care to those who survived serious burn incidents. Many individuals from developing countries suffer from these injuries and 70% of the victims are children. The organization strives to support and help the clinics in the country during their stay.
I found this article interesting because we usually associate injuries with breaking a bone or tripping or falling but we usually don't think about victims suffering from a burn incident.
If you were to help this organization, who would you want to shadow as they treat burn victims, a nurse, psychosocial worker, or a rehabilitation worker?
If I were to help this organization I would probably like to shadow as they treat burn vitcims because I have seen young burn victims pictures.
ReplyDeleteWhen my father was 3yrs old 75% of his body was burned, the doctors did not expect him to live theburns were so bad; growing up he always used his scares as an example of what happends when kids play with fire.
