The number of homeless children in the United States is on the rise. The most recent statistic compiled by The Department of Health states the current number of homeless children is at 500. Most of the children recorded where in their mid-to-late teens, but 22 of the homeless children were under the age of 12.
There are three major reasons for why these children have become homeless; number one at 31% is children having an emotional or behavioral problem, which in return creates reason number two at 21% with parents being unable to cope. And lastly, 11% were children abusing drugs or alcohol. These children are on the streets without any adult protection, and are at a very high risk.
I found this article interesting because it discusses concerns dealing with homeless children, and explains the major reasons these children are homeless. This article addresses this issue, and brings attention to that fact that these children are on the streets helpless, and their numbers are increasing.

It was shocking to hear how many homeless children are out there and seeing the age they range from. People don't realize that it's not just older people homeless, this generation the rate of younger homeless teens and little kids has become so large.
