We here about green building all the time and here is an example of how it is being done right in our local schools. The article that I read was very interesting and I think its great that Oregon is right in the forefront of pushing this green trend.

UO LEED Certified Projects
Over the past month or so we have heard a lot about the new Matthew Knight Arena at the University of Oregon. It is one of the two LEED certified buildings that are on the U of O campus, the other is an alumni center. The arena is the first LEED certified college arena in the US. The 400,000 square foot, $200 million dollar arena received a gold certification through the use of many green building processes and materials. Hoffman Construction who built the arena recycled about 80% of the construction waste. The arena also uses rain water collection, photovoltaic panels, and has a single membrane reflective roof. The smaller 60,000 square foot alumni center uses many of the same practices.

i heard about that... i believe it was right after the civil war cage fight! epic!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome. I didn't even hear anything about this on the news while they were building the arena. This is a great way to start trending toward "building green". The fact that 80 percent of the construction waste was able to be recycled is also astonishing. But what is LEED certified mean? Hopefully this gives incentive to other construction companies to be more "green" with there work.
